Nottingham Brings A Smile!

Themed ‘Nottingham Brings a Smile’, the community of the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) has yet returned once again with its annual charity carnival. Together with AIESEC, Student’s Association as well as the Clubs and Societies of UNMC will be joining forces to bring to live this event.

With the cooperation of over 50 clubs and societies of UNMC and involvement of external vendors, the event would be buzzing with a diverse range of games and food to be enjoyed by all. Get ready to be dropped in to the Dunkin’ Booth, fight in the Gladiator and even show off your mind blasting football skills at our own soccer pitch. Participants can even expect interesting merchandises to be seen around the carnival. Local guest bands and artistes are set to serenade audiences of the event.
Highlight of day would be the ‘Ultimate Splash Off’, the water balloon fight would be an extremely fun event for the whole family!

In addition to our exciting line up of events, our very own Malaysian local indie band, An Honest Mistake would make a special guest appearance. They are also set to launch their second album, Say What U Want, Say What U Will in conjunction with the carnival .Come on down to get an exclusive first listen to their line of new inventive, energetic, enthusiastic, and colorful songs.

There will also be a Hunger Awareness Week drive in conjunction with the Nottingham Ace Society and JCI to raise awareness towards hunger and famine by having a food packaging event on the day of the charity carnival.

Aside from showcasing the enthusiasm of the students of UNMC towards a good cause, the carnival aims to acknowledge the perseverance and fight of two understated societies in Malaysia. All proceeds gained from the event would be directed to the Malaysian Council for Rehabilitation (MCR) and the Malaysia Rare Disorder Society (MRDS) in attempts to help raise funds.

The carnival is to be held on the 24th of March 2012, from 9am to 7pm at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, Jalan Broga, 43500 Semenyih Selangor. So mark your calendars and join us for a day of never ending fun and charity!

The International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) is a global non-governmental organisation which represents a wide range of national and international member organisations that seek to advance social welfare, social development and social justice.
ICSW’s basic mission is to promote forms of social and economic development which aim to reduce poverty, hardship and vulnerability throughout the world, especially amongst disadvantaged people. It strives for recognition and protection of fundamental rights to food, shelter, education, health care and security. It believes that these rights are an essential foundation for freedom, justice and peace. It seeks also to advance equality of opportunity, freedom of self-expression and access to human services.
In working to achieve its mission, ICSW advocates policies and programmes which strike an appropriate balance between social and economic goals and which respect cultural diversity. It seeks implementation of these proposals by governments, international organisations, non-governmental agencies and others. It does so in cooperation with its network of members and with a wide range of other organisations at local, national and international levels.
ICSW’s main ways of pursuing its aims include gathering and disseminating information, undertaking research and analysis, convening seminars and conferences, drawing on grass-roots experiences, strengthening non-governmental organisations, developing policy proposals, engaging in public advocacy and working with policy-makers and administrators in government and elsewhere.
Malaysian Council for Rehabilitation has been accepted as a member of Category C (Other Member Organisations) of International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) on 2010 and is the first among thematic organisations to join the ICSW’s membership.

We are about RARE disorders. A rare disorder is a medical condition that affects only a few people in the population and usually has genetic origins; think brittle bones disease (penyakit tulang rapuh).

We are about parent support. We hold events where parents share about their experiences in raising their children with rare disorders. We are about raising community awareness. We join community events to raise awareness about rare disorders.

We are about involving our children in healthy activities. We look for opportunities for our children to participate in such as outings and art activities.  We are about educating ourselves. We want to know what is the latest medical research done on specific rare disorders.
